Letter: People willing to camp out for food, but not for a cause

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I have been a participant with the Mathews Relay for Life for the last two years. After driving by the new Chick-fil-A last Wednesday, it really shocked me to see so many tents and people in the parking lot. To see so many willing to camp out in freezing temperatures for a restaurant’s grand opening was a disappointment. Drive by the Mathews Relay and see how many tents there are … maybe 10 or 15.

To think that people are willing to camp out for free food but not willing to camp out for a cause saddens me. We have all been touched by cancer in one form or another. If we had the participation at the Mathews Relay that was in front of Chick-fil-A, just think of the good we could do for so many that are suffering. To all of those that camped out, how about putting those camping skills to good use and come out to support the Relay for Life this year?
