We have known JJ Orth, candidate for the Gloucester Board of Supervisors for the Abingdon District, for over 40 years. We know him to be honest, energetic, trustworthy and vitally interested in his community. His concern for community is not something that has suddenly appeared as he seeks to run for office. JJ has unselfishly volunteered since coming to Gloucester in the late 1960s. Whether it was the Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad, Bethany United Methodist Church or funding for Gloucester High School athletic facilities, to name a few examples, JJ has taken leadership roles and insured success for whatever group or activity he served.
We believe that the above qualities and the experience he has had in a long and productive career in marine science handling large research grants, designing and leading long-term research programs in both good and bad economic climates, qualify him to serve on the board of supervisors.
