Letter: Misleading statements erode trust

Editor, Gazette-Journal:I am writing in response to a recent article (“Sheriff outlines problems at Route 14/3 bridge project,” Page 1A Sept. 26 issue) in which you reported on Sheriff April Edwards’ comments during the Mathews County Board of Supervisors’ Sept. 19 meeting. Specifically, under the “Other Issues” section, the sheriff addressed internal matters between the sheriff’s office and Mathews County IT.As a reader and someone with a keen interest in public administration, I find it troubling that the sheriff chose to air interoffice issues in such a public forum. In doing so, Sheriff Edwards presented misleading information, which unfortunately did not offer a balanced view or provide an opportunity for the Mathews County IT team to respond.
