I would like to express my support for Mrs. Deborah McDonough to fill the unexpired term of the at-large Gloucester School Board position in the upcoming special election.
I was fortunate enough to work with Debbie for 12 years at Woodside High School in Newport News. Debbie was the head librarian, and I was a teacher. Debbie’s concern for equal access and support of all students was apparent from Day 1. Debbie revolutionized the library by bringing it into the 21st century, organizing books in a way that was intuitive to the students and keeping with current research while also incorporating creative activities, transitioning the library to a “maker’s space.” Debbie was known to welcome all students and stayed on top of the current literature so that she could make recommendations to students about any and all interests they could possibly have.
