Mathews may be a single A division school, but it is AAA when it comes to pulling off well-executed events. On Friday and Saturday, Mathews hosted the Region A wrestling meet, which included 13 schools from the Eastern Shore, Northern Neck, Tidewater and Tri-Rivers districts of Virginia.
The meet was extremely well organized. All events began exactly on time. There were no delays between matches. The scorers and timers were knowledgeable individuals. The announcer was excellent and made sure all wrestlers were at their designated bouts on time.
The fans were gracious regardless of the outcome of the match. Team scores were announced at regular intervals and bracket sheets were kept up to date. Two referees per match assured an accurate result and ultimate safety for each wrestler. The concession stand was well manned and excellent food was enjoyed by many.
