The Literacy Volunteers of Gloucester Board would like to express overwhelming appreciation for your generous support of our shared mission to “equip adults for tomorrow” in Gloucester and the greater Middle Peninsula. Over the last 42 years, we have supported countless adults to achieve their goals through tutoring services led by our devoted volunteers. It is because of your generosity that we have successfully nurtured individuals, their families, and our communities.
There have been significant socioeconomic changes in the last few years that have altered the most pressing needs of individuals in the communities we serve. In 1981, there was a significant nationwide need for literacy education for adults, with a high school dropout rate of about 1 in 7.
