Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I am dismayed that a recent letter to the editor encouraged readers to see their neighbors as the enemy (“What they think,” March 13 Readers Write). The social divide that is widening under the current administration is the gulf between almost every citizen of this great country, regardless of party, and the ultra-wealthy of the world.
As Trump said before the election, he has many “nice places to go.” Where do the rest of us go as heat, natural disasters, international mistrust, illness, and the costs of basic necessities increase and the ground beneath us sinks?
What is Trump’s plan for maintaining the “common goods” we all depend on—physical safety, truthful news, religious freedom, public transportation networks, access to medical care? Our Constitution was written to promote the “general welfare,” not the greed of a tiny percentage of the population.
I support your welfare, dear reader, and I hope you support mine.
