Editor, Gazette-Journal:

This is in response to the letter written by S.J. Mehaffey ("Words have consequences," Gazette-Journal Jan. 19). I have two problems with what was written.

First, S.J. writes "While there is no evidence connecting these two events, none disconnects them either." It doesn’t matter what S.J. was referring to, the statement makes absolutely no sense at all. If something can not be connected, but it also can not be disconnected, it therefore must be connected. What kind of logic is that?

Second and more importantly, if someone reads the letter written by S.J. and becomes upset or agitated, and then goes out and commits a terrible crime, is S.J. Mehaffey to be held responsible or accountable for this crime? I hope not.
