Letter: JERA DEAN GAMBLE

Jera Dean Gamble of Mathews, beloved wife and mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, and cherished friend, passed away in her sleep on January 25, 2025. She was 91.

Jera, an RN, was born in Roswell, New Mexico. She married Roger Gamble in 1954 and was an untiring partner in the foreign service, where they lived in the U.S., Costa Rica, the Philippines, Bolivia, Argentina, Mexico, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Antigua, and Suriname. The couple later settled in Mathews County, Virginia, where Jera was very active in the local community, putting her creative and organizational talents to work in the Mathews Woman’s Club and various local organizations and charities.

Jera, graceful, talented, and beautiful inside and out, loved her family and friends deeply. She was cherished and will be missed by so many around the world whose lives she touched.

Jera is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Roger Roland Gamble; four children, Kelly (Peter) Hartshorn, Scott Gamble, Marc Gamble, and Steven (Rosa Maria) Gamble; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Jeanne), Fletcher (Danica), Allison (Sam), Olivia, Christina, Michael, and Catelyn, and five great-grandchildren, Kane, Braxton, Theo, Frances, and Parker.
