Letter: In response

The following comments are made in response to a letter in last week’s Gazette-Journal (“The presidential debate,” June 27 Readers Write).
The “Green New Deal” never made it out of the 116th Senate in 2019.
American companies still drill for oil on both private and public American lands. In the first six months of 2023, oil companies added 624 new oil wells, a 12 percent increase. By releasing oil reserves and replenishing them at a lower cost, the current administration saved taxpayers $180 million as well as reduced the price of gasoline.
We do not have an open border. Bipartisan legislation (HR 815) introduced in February 2024 would have addressed the current immigration problems but was not sent for a vote in the Senate at the direction of the former U.S. president.
