In my last job with the Commonwealth of Virginia, I worked with most of the sheriffs in the state through the TRIAD program. I can say, with pride, that none perform their duties better than our own Mathews County Sheriff, Danny Howlett. Good sheriffs are involved in much more than just law enforcement; they are also very much involved with the community in which they serve. Sheriff Howlett certainly lives up to this standard.
Because of his commitment to TRIAD, some of Mathews County’s finest citizens have volunteered to work with him and his deputies to make Mathews a safer and more enjoyable place to live, and while doing so, they are saving Virginia taxpayers about $2.5 million a year. This is just one of many ways Sheriff Howlett is involved in his community.
Just think how much better off our state would be if all our sheriffs were as committed as Sheriff Howlett.
