Spelling for Literacy, the fundraising event sponsored by Adult Literacy on the Middle Peninsula, Inc. and the umbrella for the student and adult-team competition, was exactly what it was hoped it would be—an event enjoyed by all ages, good competition with additional money raised for the ALMP.
The event could not have taken place without the support of the Mathews Market Days Committee, the financial backing from the Gazette-Journal, Chesapeake Bank, Colonial Virginia Bank and support from Gloucester Office Supply, The UPS Store-Gloucester, Domino’s Pizza and Chick-fil-A, which gave the bee mascot a honey of an opportunity to draw an audience to cheer and contribute funds for correct spelling. In addition, much cooperation was received from the Boys and Girls Club of Mathews to the benefit of its clientele as well as Adult Literacy.
