Letter: ‘Get on with… business’

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The Gloucester Board of Supervisors passed categorical funding of county funds provided to the school board. This statement is correct, right?

The idea of categorical funding has been raised again and comments made saying the school board is not required to break out these funds from state or federal when reporting is disturbing. I am sure the state and federal funds require accountability.

Hopefully, the board of supervisors provided the school board with guidelines of what they were looking for in reporting. To do less and expect results would be a job not well done.

The school board should be breaking these items out in their reports, whether required or not by code. To do less is petty and spiteful. Forty-plus percent of our real estate taxes—money we could all use elsewhere—goes to the school board, and asking them to account for it is not extreme, just good government.
