Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I would like to express my appreciation for the members of Abingdon and Gloucester Fire and Rescue. Their dedication to the citizens of Gloucester was never more evident than the weekend of Feb. 19 when they responded to nearly 70 fires throughout the county. These men and women left their families for the entire weekend to battle wildfires under extremely dangerous circumstances.

Most of the folks worked around the clock without sleep and gave up their entire weekend off to serve us. Without their efforts, there would have been many more homes and property lost.
