Letter: Factually informed sense

This is in reply to “Common sense” (Sept. 5, Readers Write). Governor Youngkin should know how our voting system works. The executive order he signed was basically just paper, possibly meant to make other unknowing persons afraid to trust the current and ongoing system; because our electoral system already does every one of the items listed and has performed all of these tasks faithfully for years, if not decades:
—100 percent use of paper ballots, which provide a record of the voter’s intent;
—Use of paper ballot counting machines, not voting machines;
—Strict chain of custody for ballots with daily reconciliation for early voting;
—Application required to receive an early ballot. No mass mailing of ballots;
—Counting machines tested before every election;
—Counting machines not connected to the internet, and
—Drop boxes under 24/7 monitoring.
Perhaps if Governor Youngkin understood how the system really works, his underage son would not have illegally tried t...
