I recently saw something in Mathews that left me deeply saddened—a car with a crude message aimed at one of our country’s leaders, “Kiss my a**, Kamala,” scrawled across the back windshield. This public display of disrespect toward a sitting vice president and a presidential candidate is more than just disappointing; it’s a stark reflection of the erosion of basic decency in our society.
There was a time, not so long ago, when we could count on each other to engage in political discourse with respect and civility. We seemed to innately understand that our shared humanity was more important than our political differences. The Greatest Generation exemplified these values, embodying a sense of duty, respect and decorum that helped build and strengthen this nation.
But what happened to that decency? When did it become acceptable to use our cars as billboards for anger and insult? What happened to caring about the example we set for future generations? Degrading oth...
