Editor, Gazette-Journal:
The newly formed Mathews Citizens for the Common Good has stated that their candidates have pledged to work for five specific goals; all five being vital for the future of Mathews County:
—Solicit and respect diverse voices and positions;
—Ensure our children have access to a quality public school education;
—Foster a business environment and favorable climate for tourists;
—Protect our county’s natural resources and assets, and
—Make decisions in the best interest of all members of our community.
I am eager to have county officials who respect these five goals instead of creating a contentious atmosphere around every decision they make. The public response by telephone, messages and in person to those who are advocating the positions of Mathews Citizens for the Common Good proves the need for change.
