I am writing to say Thank You to the election officials and poll volunteers in Gloucester and Mathews. My husband and I appreciate the time and talent they donate to the community. Election Day is a long one for the workers at the polling places. All volunteers also participate in training sessions that require even more of their time.
For several years I was a volunteer poll worker in Gloucester. The experience was inspiring, enlightening, and exhausting. Our day started at 5 a.m. As voters arrived and voter rolls were checked for each one, there were officials present to handle any question of voter ID. After the polls closed, we stayed on for as long as it took to certify all ballots, and follow every meticulous guideline, checking and rechecking that all ballots were in order. There was no possible way that any irregularity in voting—much less deliberate voter fraud—could have happened.
