There seems to be a trend in America’s school system that now caters to students who do not excel through a lack of passion for learning rather than rewarding those students who do excel. I am deeply disturbed by this and felt the need to write.
To clarify my point, I understand that Gloucester High School, just this year, has changed a program whereby honor students were recognized and paraded in the ceremony before the regular graduating class. This change has infuriated some, yet accepted by other parents and students as being fair.
Where are the activists in Gloucester who would demand that the County School Board and Faculty continue to give special consideration to those students who go beyond requirements of achievement through hard work and dedication? A grandchild who is graduating in June in the top five of the 2011 class looked forward to this ceremony and special recognition for all the hard work accomplished. I was looking forward to ...
