For 37 years, Mathews Market Days has been a fun, community-oriented fair, offering something for everyone—art, games, music, handicrafts, history, folklore, food and even politics.
This year, Mr. Art Dubey, chairman of the Mathews Market Days Committee, spoiled a portion of the political aspect by abusing his position at the podium by endorsing the incumbent candidate for Mathews County Sheriff. Also, Mr. Dubey opined that the sheriff’s opponent was "across the street" and therefore not a part of Market Days. As representative of a non-political entity, he should have exercised more decorum and refrained from obnoxiousness. Thankfully, relatively few people were paying attention to his remarks; but still, the other committeemen should reprimand Mr. Dubey now so that his actions are not repeated in the future.
