Letter: Death of menhaden study bill

I was appalled to read that the opportunity to analyze the poor health of the Chesapeake Bay’s marine life and wildlife dependent on it was once again shoved to the back of the legislative line. “Less government” should not apply to those that have no voice.
But we who have chosen this area for its natural beauty, recreational opportunities, peace and serenity do. I would much rather watch an eagle dive from on high like a bomber jet then clear the water’s surface with a fish fattened by the natural marine food chain than, as witnessed this week, one on a dock picking at what appeared to be a cat carcass.
Below is the link to the members of the VA General Assembly Rules Committee which killed HB 2713. They need to know how we feel as wildlife observers, fishermen, boat enthusiasts, nature lovers and bleeding hearts about the scarcity of the bay’s chain of life at which the menhaden is the appallingly depleted critical link.
