I would like to thank the Mathews Board of Supervisors for making the final draft of the new Mathews County Comprehensive Plan 2030, "Preserving and Sustaining the Pearl of the Chesapeake," available to residents. The comp plan can now be checked out from the Mathews Memorial Library.
There are five plans total for checkout. I highly recommend that every resident check out a comp plan in its physical form rather than an online draft, or either of the hard copy drafts, which were available for viewing: one in the library, one in the zoning office. These were the only resident options before the comp plan was adopted on Jan. 18, 2011.
As I began my study, I learned that the place I call home is represented on page 29 of the comp plan as part of 24 percent of housing stock built in 1939 and earlier.
