Last year I, reluctantly, accepted the presidency of the Mathews Historical Museum, a small, self-described “one-horse” museum on Main Street, largely overlooked and ignored by most passersby. A year later, it is ignored no more! A wonderful, tireless team of volunteers has transformed the building into one of the premier museums on the Middle Peninsula.
In less than a year, our dedicated and rejuvenated volunteers have created a major destination for our citizens and visitors alike. Complete with a new, state-of-the-art theater, a historic country store, a collection of local home appliances dating back more than a century, a massive quilt collection dating from the Civil War, and much more, the “new” Mathews Museum has become a “must see” venue on Main Street.
We have accomplished so much, so quickly, but the best is yet to come. Applications are now being taken for additional members/volunteers interested in leading us into the new year with...
