Selective reading involves reading something and filtering out what does not suit you and welcoming and embracing what is acceptable to your own viewpoint. So many churches and/or Christians are all about selective reading of God’s Word (the Bible) these days. Even Satan quotes the Bible, Matthew 4:6-7. He didn’t filter it, but took a passage out of its overall context to create a lie.
The best example I see of this in churches is the church yard sale. For the life of me, I cannot understand why a Bible-believing church would condone or participate in the one thing that caused Jesus to go ballistic. Take a careful (non-selective) look at John 2:12-17. Now re-read verse 16. The problem was that people had turned God’s house into a marketplace.
