Letter: Changing times and a tribute to Bullet

Last week Mathews lost one of our native sons, James Brownley Hudgins, better known to all who were blessed to know him as “Bullet.” He was a bit older than I but had always been a part of my life.
We grew up in the same church family. He and Nancy were married the same year we married. And then there was his son, Blake, and daughter, Stephanie, who was born the same year as our son. For a number of years we were all involved with Vacation Bible School, Christmas pageants, school concerts, sports, and all of those activities that are a part of raising your children.
You could say he was a “multi-tasker” long before we gave that label any thought. A 50-year+ member of the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department, member of the Harcum Hunt Club, active in the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at Bethel Church, out on the water boating and fishing every chance he could get. Husband, father, grandfather. These are among the many caps he wore.
