Letter: Celebrating Gloucester’s Woodville School

On Feb. 24, the Woodville Rosenwald Foundation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the school and on Feb. 25 the Foundation held an open house for the community. On Saturday, there were between 50 and 60 people present. On Sunday, more than 100 visited the school within a two-hour period. Visitors came from as far as Northern Virginia, Fredericksburg and Virginia Beach.
One of the most inspiring events that took place on Saturday was the nine Gloucester Rosenwald school graduates that were physically present, led by centenarian Mrs. Pagie Cosby (age 103). Mrs. Cosby assisted in the cutting of the ribbon. In addition to the Foundation Board members, more than a dozen additional volunteers assisted in the tasks of preparing the building, serving snacks, drinks and cleaning up when the event ended.
