Editor, Gazette-Journal:
"We have to pass the bill before we can read what is in it." Those words from a Congresswoman reverberated across America. Similar words were spoken softly at Mathews Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday evening March 30, 2011.
Earlier this year, the same board voted to adopt a countywide Comprehensive Plan through 2030. As yet, the residents of Mathews County have access to only one early ‘draft’ of the local Comp Plan for study located in the library. The same ‘plan’ was available online for residents to read. Several residents went online and did read the plan. Two of our local board members do not have e-mail addresses. Did they read the plan before they voted in favor of it? Or, did they just take someone else’s word for what was in the plan?
Alas, this letter is about another vote taken by our local Mathews Board of Supervisors that is akin to ‘shooting in the dark.’
