Letter: Artistic style out of place

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I am writing in reference to the art statues that line Main Street Gloucester this summer.
Two years ago, so many people loved the life-like people that sat in front of the businesses, and so nice that we still have the man on the bench reading the newspaper.
I was quite surprised though at this year’s much more modern, contemporary renditions of people. I understand that it is depicting families, children, etc., but the style just does not suit our village’s more rural style. They remind me of something that we might see in Times Square, New York.
Many people I’ve talked to around the county share this same sentiment. I appreciate the fact that our Main Street is art-conscious as it does make Main Street interesting and unique, but I would suggest that in the future we opt for a style that is more suitable to this Main Street’s personality.
