Editor, Gazette-Journal:
Four members at the Gloucester County School Board emergency meeting on Friday: a.) deprived the people of representation by GCSB member Drew; b.) restrained public comment, violating Virginia Constitution Article I, Section 12. Freedom of speech and the press; right peaceably to assemble, and to petition. “That the freedoms of speech … can never be restrained except by despotic governments …”
1.) By what Constitutional authority did the chairman call an “emergency” meeting on one day’s notice: Article I, Section 12 “The General Assembly shall not pass any law abridging the right … of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for the redress of grievances.”
2.) Where in the Constitution did GCSB get authority to exercise the power of both separate Executive and Judicial Department for the Chair + 3 members to vote to violate due process: to investigate an unidentified GCSB member accused by an unidentified party, over an undisclosed issue...
