Recently, the Mathews Museum hosted a visit from Mrs. Virginia Coyle’s class from the Mathews Bay School’s summer camp group. This group was of Pre-K age and had been studying “Little House on the Prairie.” Mrs. Coyle contacted the Mathews Museum, as she knew they had a new exhibit, “Thomas Hunley General Store,” as well as other exhibits of interest, that would pertain to what they were learning.
The group was shown the antique kitchen exhibit, old tools, the fishing exhibit, and the antique quilting and weaving display.
The children were very engaged, asked questions, and made terrific comments.
They were very interested in the Old General Store and that the “old stores” were unlike the Food Lion.
When asked what they liked the most about the Hunley Store, it was the Old Gum Ball Machine.
The children were well-behaved and were delighted to visit the Mathews Museum, as were we.
