Letter: A pair of heroes

My thanks to the Gazette-Journal staff for the articles (Aug. 3 issue) about two of my heroes who are great assets for Mathews County.
I represented Mathews on the RCC board when Dr. Shannon L. Kennedy became president of the college. I have a little background in leadership and it was immediately evident that she is one of the best. She has worked tirelessly to improve programs from academics to financial aid—all of which will benefit Mathews students. But more than this, she knows the faculty, staff and students that make up the heart of RCC. Mathews is blessed with Dr. Kennedy.
I served briefly on the MHS CTE Advisory Committee and have a major interest in Workforce Development. Randy Applegate, the CTE coordinator, is doing an excellent job leading the effort to provide career education that may not include a 4-year college.
