Letter: A job well done

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The citizens of Gloucester spoke loud and clearly to the county board of supervisors at a recent meeting, with the message: No tax increases. After listening closely to the taxpayers, county and school officials, the board decided that an increase in taxes was necessary in order to provide the services that we value, including education, safety, security and public works, among others.

It must have been a difficult decision for elected officials to go against the wishes of their constituents and raise taxes, but it was the right decision based on their analysis and the input from the county administrator and the school board.

Gloucester is fortunate to have selected a board of supervisors with the courage and intellect to make difficult decisions in the long-term interest of its citizens, even if that requires going against popular demand.
