Tidewater Virginia lost a treasure this week. We speak of Cecil Wray Page Jr.—our friend and mentor.

Wray was a major force behind the founding of the Fairfield Foundation. He was a strong guiding force in the effort to save Rosewell through the Gloucester Historical Society. He worked tirelessly to see that Walter Reed’s Birthplace and the Rosewell Ruins were open to the public—many Gloucester school children will remember him as the "nice man in the hat" who told the story so eloquently. He founded the Page-Nelson Society, an organization dedicated to supporting historic preservation in Gloucester and Yorktown.

It is hard to imagine Gloucester County Virginia without a direct descendant of Governor John Page of Rosewell living on its soil. In fact, it is harder still to imagine the Gloucester Historical Society, The Rosewell Foundation, The Fairfield Foundation, Preservation Virginia, The Christ Church Foundation, The Page-...
