As one who attended the last Mathews Supervisors meeting who “claim to be on the conservative right and who say they ‘Back the Blue’ … who adhere to the opinions and teachings of the John Birch Society and are afraid of the government taking control over local law enforcement,” I want to thank Sheriff Barrick for showing us how to stay out of the political “soup” by endorsing one of his employees for sheriff and transferring funds to benefit that campaign as reported at VPAP.org.
I want to thank him for exposing the mischievousness of three of our local BOS. After all, silly me, I thought it was the board’s job to set the agenda since they are as independent as Sheriff Barrick wisely pointed out that he is. I would never have known what a tyrant the chairman was since he did nothing to stop the Sheriff from speaking for three minutes and then permitted him five.
