Editor, Gazette-Journal:On May 11, Mathews Citizens for the Common Good presented a full-page mission statement in this paper. Several members have expanded upon this in letters to the editor and the group has a nicely designed and informative website (MathewsCommonGood.com). These various communications explain why the group was formed and its goals. The website states:
“Some of us started talking about the decisions and directions taken by the current Board of Supervisors, decisions we felt did not reflect the values, concerns and needs of most of our citizens.
“People began reaching out to each other and to others in Mathews who are long-standing citizens, business owners, civic leaders, all sharing the same concerns.
“This led to the creation of a political committee of those wanting to work together to campaign for and elect candidates for public office that want the best for Mathews.
“We will choose among those interested candidates who agree that we need to lead Mathews differen...
