LESTER LEO LONG JR.

Lester Leo Long Jr., 89, of Barhamsville passed away on January 9, 2023. Known as Bud to his family and close friends, he was born August 10, 1933, the son of the late Lester Leo and Helen Burns Long of Tully, New York.

During his years at Tully High School, Bud excelled in football, basketball, various athletics, and the high school marching band. He attended St. Leo’s Church in Tully where he served as altar server. Following graduation from high school he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS Henley DD 762 in Norfolk, Va. where he later met and married the love of his life, Trudy Bell. After starting their family, he received an honorable discharge and settled on the Peninsula while working various jobs in the parts field. He retired from Liebherr as parts administrator in 2000 after 25 years of service.

Les loved the outdoors and animals, he enjoyed many types of activities including coon hunting, competition hunts with his favorite bluetick hounds, horseback riding, playing sports with his children, traveling, camping, gardening and just enjoying nature. He belonged to many organizations and participated in various charitable events.

Les loved and was most proud of his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Trudy Long; his children, Kenny Long (Debbie), Doug Long (Christina), Denise Canada (Allen); grandchildren, Jennifer Canada, DJ Shepeluk (Michelle), Adam Long (Kaylan) and Emily Van Engen (Garrett); his great-grandchild, Luna Wren Long; many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Jeannie Long Bell; his stepdaughter; Pam Molinatto; and his three sisters, Aletha Crosley, Rita Hartley and Evelyn Dempsey.

He was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. January 20, 2023 with visitation one hour prior to the service, Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th St., West Point, Va. 23181.
