The Mathews County School Board hosted a legislative tour last Thursday of all three county schools, showing the building needs and challenges faced at Mathews Elementary, Thomas Hunter Middle School and Mathews High School. School board members were joined by county supervisors, as well as Joe Schumacher, district director for Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Montross), and Joseph White, legislative assistant for State Sen. Ryan T. McDougle (R-Hanover). Above, new THMS principal Jodie Simpson addresses the group. Shown here, from left, are supervisors Mike Walls and Tim Doss, school board chairman Dr. Mari Gibbs, supervisors Tom Bowen and Janice Phillips, chair of the Mathews County Board of Supervisors. Simpson joined the division at the start of the school year, having most recently served as an assistant principal at Gloucester High School.
