The Mathews County School Board will meet Tuesday night with the name of Lee-Jackson Elementary foremost in its agenda. The meeting will begin at 6 o’clock in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.
School board members are expected to consider an action item related to the name and whether to change it, although the exact wording of the resolution to be voted on will be decided by board members during the meeting, according to Superintendent of Schools Nancy Welch.
Additionally, Welch said she has reserved the first 90 minutes of Tuesday’s meeting for receiving citizen comments and requests, ostensibly about the name change issue. She indicated that the comment period will be open for school employees and Mathews County citizens only. As with other school board comment periods, speakers will be limited to three minutes and are prohibited from commenting on specific personnel or student matters.
“I suspect we will use the full 90 minutes for public comment,” she said.
