Death can be difficult to talk about, especially when considering your own demise. Pre-planning your funeral can bring you the peace of mind that your wishes will be honored and your loved ones will have minimal decisions to make when you pass away.
David Bristow, owner and director of Hogg Funeral Home in Hayes, realizes this is “not an easy conversation to have.”
Bristow views pre-planning as having a conversation about the person’s life, and several visits are often needed to consider all of the aspects of an individual’s future funeral arrangements.
A funeral home’s first steps in helping an individual with their pre-planning is to “sit down and be a really good listener,” he said.
Instead of individuals coming alone to make these plans, Bristow said “most of the time they will have a family member or a close friend.” Sometimes people will bring along their minister or financial advisor to help with their decisions.
