LAVINIA ‘VENNIE’ BROWN BERRY

Lavinia “Vennie” Brown Berry, born on October 28, 1938, peacefully went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, February 16, 2025. Vennie, as she was lovingly known, passed away at home with her beloved family by her side. Vennie was born to the late William Murray Brown Sr. and Maggie West Brown of Hayes. As a Gloucester High School graduate in 1957, it led her on the path to marry her high school sweetheart, the late Albert Berry. The two married on a very memorable day, Valentine’s Day, 1959. Vennie cherished her family and was a devout Christian, so she attended and remained a member of Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church in Hayes. Albert and Vennie were blessed with three children, Glenn, Randall, and Carlene. Their love created a family union and a family business within Gloucester, Berry’s Repair Shop. In her spare time, she enjoyed the love for the outdoors, especially the love for the water, crafting, and spending time with her grandchildren. You could always rely on her watching the Washington Nationals baseball games in the spring and the Dallas Cowboys in the fall. Christmas was especially a beautiful time for Vennie. Remembered as her favorite holiday, she always cherished that time of year and made it exceptional for her children and their families. Along with all the joys of Christmas, she always made sure to make everyone the special dish they loved, especially her salads, the chow-chow for the grandchildren, and her never-forgotten delicious cakes. Lavinia was preceded in death by her son, Glenn Berry; sister, Mary Viola Coates; nephew, Kevin Ray Coates, and longtime family friend, Hickman B. Jackson. She is survived by her daughter, Carlene Snodgrass (Brian); son, Randall Berry (Theresa); daughter-in-law, Angela Berry; grandchildren, Brittney Skay (Bill), Anthony Berry, Amber Houston (Casey), Randall Berry Jr., Nikki Berry, Bryant Berry (Miranda), Jacob Snodgrass; great-grandchildren, Ella Houston, Laci Austin, Keiren Houston, Blake Berry, Kyle Berry; siblings, Linda Hammock (Rick), William Murray Brown Jr. (Betty); special niece, Rita Hawthorne, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
