Larry Allen Young, 70, of Hayes, died Oct. 23, 2011.
He served in the U.S. Army, retiring after 21 years. While in the Army, he served in Korea and Vietnam and received numerous medals including the Good Conduct Medal (6th award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3) and the Meritorious Service Medal. He also spent 13 years in civil service as a Marine Surveyor. Larry was a life member of the American Legion Post 75 and a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 58, serving as Service Officer for both. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church. Larry loved his family and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cathryn Young; sons, Lealand A. Young, John R. Young and wife Deanna, Charles E. Young; daughter, Kathi Lynn Young; grandchildren, Leigh A. Young, Ashley R. Young, Aaron Blake Young, Christopher Norris, and Jessica Lynn Floyd; great-grandchild, Grayson Floyd; sister, Kelly Young; brother, Jerry Young and wife Sandy; extended children, Richard Garner and Annette Watson.
A Celebration of Life Service, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Inurnment will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday with military honors at Windsor Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
