Largemouth bass

Shaun Hanson, above, shows off a 5-pound largemouth bass that he caught at Beaverdam Reservoir on Oct. 4 from a kayak, using a topwater crank bait. Also making a catch at Beaverdam was David Rowan, who reeled in a 4.3-pound bass from the floating pier using a silver popper. Other recent catches include bluegill, white and yellow perch. The current water temperature is 69 degrees, Park Ranger Elizabeth Keefer reported on Monday. Beaverdam Park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for the rest of the month. The park has live minnows and nightcrawlers for sale, and watercraft rentals are available. For more information, call the Ranger Station at 804-693-2107.
