Saturday’s May Faire, the annual spring heritage festival sponsored by the Mathews Historical Museum, attracted one of the largest crowds in its six-year history, as visitors to the Mathews court green enjoyed fun events, games, vendors, food, and a little history.
“I couldn’t be more pleased as to how May Faire went,” said Barbara Bass, chairman of this year’s festival, which had the theme “A Rural Life.” “The attendance was great, the food was good and even though it was a bit chilly everyone seemed to be happy and having a good time,” she said.
Outdoors, musicians and a juggler entertained, antique farm equipment shelled corn and pressed apple cider, chicks hatched, vendors greeted good crowds, and a children’s area gave plenty for the young to do.
At the museum, items showed the progress of household items in the advance of daily living.
