Gloucester High School varsity field hockey players improved to 5-0 in the Peninsula District and 11-0 overall with a 12-goal shutout of visiting Heritage on Tuesday. GHS coach Mike Miller said the game allowed all his players experience on the field.
Morgan Sadler, Laura Van Gieson and Bree Fox each had a pair of goals in the win. Also scoring for Gloucester were Courtnie Greene, Hannah Joyce, Kelsey Gibbs, Katelyn Curtis, Taylor Babbs and Rhiannon Miller. Joyce contributed three assists and assists were also credited to Amathyst Macey, Sadler, Van Gieson, Greene, Curtis and Miller.
The Lady Dukes are scheduled to take on their rivals from Kecoughtan at Christopher Newport University at 4 p.m. today. The Warriors have one loss this season, which came in a 2-0 game with Denbigh.
Next week, Gloucester is scheduled to host Woodside on Monday and the Patriots on Wednesday. A match with Warwick, originally scheduled for Sept. 29, was postponed to Oct. 20 and the PD Tournament begin...
