Lady Dukes post four shutout victories

Gloucester varsity field hockey players improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the Peninsula District with four shutouts in recent action. The Lady Dukes beat Jamestown, 2-0, and Hampton, York and Bethel by 3-0 scores.

GHS coach Mike Miller said his players did "a phenomenal job on defense" in shutting out Bethel at Christopher Newport University last Thursday. Courtnie Greene scored with an assist from Laura VanGieson and Hannah Joyce scored twice, once assisted by Lindsay Lawrence. "The girls have really come together as a team. They’re doing the little things right, and that adds up to a big thing," Miller said.

The Dukes beat York at CNU on Sept. 14. Greene scored with an assist from Lawrence and the Sadler sisters each scored, with freshman Kayla assisted by Joyce and senior Morgan assisted by Kayla.
