The Gloucester High School varsity softball team won three games in the past week, defeating Bethel, Denbigh and Phoebus high schools.
Gloucester beat the Bethel Bruins, 4-1, last Thursday at home. Pitcher Alivia Bruce gave up three hits in her complete game performance, striking out 13 batters.
The Lady Dukes found themselves in a 1-0 deficit at the bottom of the fifth inning. Grace Sinko-Vanliew led the inning with a single and promptly stole second base. Sinko-Vanliew scored as Tessa Carteret reached second base on an infield error. Back-to-back sacrifice bunts by Chloe Davis and Alexis Dishman allowed Carteret to reach home, giving Gloucester a 2-1 lead.
In the sixth inning, Gloucester scored two more runs as Bruce hit a double to the left of center field and Cameron followed with a two-run home run. Both Kaia Hutton and Autumn Cookson contributed doubles in the win.
