The Gloucester High School varsity softball team improved to 7-0 with two recent wins. The Dukes defeated the Churchland Truckers, 12-0, on Friday and the Bethel Bruins, 12-2, last Thursday.
Shelby Alto, Macy Robbins and Morgan Haywood each had three hits in the win over Churchland. Nealcyn Watkins added two hits while Kaleigh Arnett contributed two RBIs with a fifth-inning double.
Haywood (7-0) pitched a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and one walk. The Truckers’ only hits came on singles in the fourth and fifth innings.
Last Thursday against the Bruins, the Dukes scored three runs in the first inning for an early advantage. Alto singled and scored on a ground out from Robbins for a quick 1-0 lead. Arnett followed with a triple and Haywood hit a two-run home run to make it 3-0.
Gloucester scored four more runs in the second inning on three hits. Alissa Upton tripled and Alyssa Shackleford singled in the uprising for a 7-0 lead.
