The Gloucester High School varsity softball team improved to 3-0 in Peninsula District standings after slipping by Bethel, 3-1, on Tuesday. On the mound, Taylor Distefano gave up three hits and an unearned run while striking out seven with no walks.
The Dukes jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first inning when Hannah Joyce led off with a double and later scored on a passed ball. With two outs, Makayla Jenkins doubled and then scored on a single from Kasey Von Engle. Coleen Lemay, running for Von Engle, scored on an error for a three-run inning and what would be the final scoring for Gloucester.
The Dukes gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1. From there, Distefano retired the next 15 batters before giving up a lead-off double in the seventh inning.
