Gloucester High School varsity softball players raised their record to 5-1 with a 35-1 dismantling of visiting Denbigh last Thursday.
Morgan Haywood picked up her first high school pitching victory by throwing a two-hitter and striking out eight batters. The freshman lefthander also contributed five hits, including four doubles, and drove in six runs.
Makayla Jenkins added three hits and six RBIs for the Dukes. Tori Brown had two hits along with a solo home run in the second inning. Devon Smith also hit a solo home run in the second as Gloucester racked up 15 runs in the frame.
Shelby Alto, Gabby Zarichny Alyssa Shackelford and Brook Street also had multiple hits in the win, and Zarichny and Street each drove in three runs.
After Spring Break, the Dukes host Lafayette in a non-district game Monday and travel to Phoebus on Tuesday.
