Gloucester High School varsity softball players remained tied with Menchville for first place in the Peninsula District this week. With their only loss being at the hands of the Monarchs, the Dukes will get a chance to break the tie tomorrow when they are scheduled for another meeting with Menchville in Newport News.
Morgan Haywood (2-0) pitched a two-hitter in Gloucester’s 29-1 win over Heritage on Tuesday. She also had four hits and three RBIs as the Dukes improved to 10-1. Makayla Jenkins added three hits and five RBIs that included a booming grand slam to center field in the third inning.
Tori Brown had two hits and five RBIs and Alissa Upton had two hits and three RBIs for Gloucester. Shelby Alto also contributed three hits in the win.
